What Gets Combined in Practice

Handling a part is often the most expensive thing a line does to it. Where a part is already located, clamped and spinning, adding a measurement is cheap; adding a separate station is not. BTI regularly combines balancing with:

  • Dimensional gaging — flatness, parallelism, thickness variation, TIR, bore, run-out
  • Surface finish and surface roughness measurement
  • Eddy current crack and surface defect detection
  • Motor and electrical function testing, including current versus speed and PWM function
  • Spin testing to operating and overspeed conditions
  • NVH — noise, vibration and harshness
  • Blade counting, blade direction and thread presence verification
  • Part marking — pin stamp, ink, hot stamp and 2D laser
  • Resonant frequency measurement
  • Press and assembly operations, including pressing to both a force and a distance

Why One Machine Instead of Several

A combination machine removes a handling step on parts where handling is a risk, holds one datum across every measurement taken, and ties all results to one part serial number. On flight-critical or safety-critical hardware, the single-datum argument usually matters more than the floor space.

Where the Limit Is

Combining operations raises cycle time on the slowest element and concentrates risk in one asset. Whether to combine or separate is a throughput and redundancy decision we work through with you at quotation, not a default.
